| 19 | Student Chapter Meeting w/ Mark Noark of Davey Tree Mark will be speaking about job opportunities for foresters with Davey. He has graciously offered to supply pizza for the meeting. |
| 22 | Trail Work Day at Cedar Lake Meet in the AG parking lot at 9:00am. We will be carpooling from there. The access road to the trailhead is heavily rutted and likely requires a vehicle with high clearance and 4-wheel drive. We will be hanging trail markers on trees along the trail. Bring a hammer if you have one. |

| 4 | Student Chapter Meeting, 6:30pm, AG187 |
| 9-11 | 27th Annual Central States Forest Soils Workshop The IL SAF State Chapter business meeting will take place in the middle of the soils workshop at 6:45pm, Wednesday, October 10th. This is after dinner at Von Jakob Vineyard. There is no cost to attend only this meeting. The $50 registration is for the bus and meals provided through the soils workshop only. |
| 18 | Student Chapter Meeting, 6:00-7:30pm, AG209 Chris Evans, Coordinator for the River to River Cooperative Weed Management Area, will be giving a small workshop on invasive species identification. This is in preparation for our assistance with surveying for invasives at Crab Orchard Wildlife Refuge (as volunteers). If you are interested in invasives and/or getting a little field experience for your resume, make sure you get to this meeting. |

| 19 | Friends of Giant City Workday, 12-3pm, meet at Interp. Center Site Interpreter Jenny Skufca is facilitating an invasive species workday. The focus of these workdays is the removal of non-native invasive plant species. This can be very physical work and we will be out in the weather. Please dress appropriately. Hand tools and safety gear will be provided. Please contact an SAF Officer if you are interested in carpooling to this event. |
| 24 | Student Chapter Meeting, 6:00-7:00pm, AG187 Kelly Pearson, the District Trails and Volunteer Coordinator for the Forest Service Mississipi Bluffs Ranger District, will be coming to this meeting to discuss plans for our continued efforts on the Cedar Lake Trail. |
| 31 | RSO Fair, 5:00-7:00pm, Student Center Ballrooms We will have a table setup for this Student Development sponsored event. Let an officer know if you are available to stand at the table and represent our organization. Setup begins at 4:30pm. Stop by if you can. |

| 7 | Student Chapter Meeting, 6:00-7:00pm, AG187 This will be an informational meeting to outline several of the events we have planned for this semester. |
| 14 | Pesticide Training, 9:30am-Noon, Test at 1pm, Giant City Interp. Center POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER - DATE TBA This would qualify volunteers to use herbicide on public lands. Safety is, of course, our main concern. The use of herbicide in this precious state park will only be approved for very specific and small-scale applications. That is, we will only use small spray bottles for direct application to the stems of mostly bittersweet and autumn olive as we cut them. |
